In South Africa’s Constitution, the Bill of Rights states that that everyone has the right to a basic education, including adult basic education and further education, which the state, through reasonable measures, must progressively make available and accessible. Education is the single largest expenditure of government and spending grew by 14% a year for the past three years – adding up to R140,4 million in 2008/09.

In order to meet the needs to basic and adult education, CE at UP offers courses to educators and education managers in a variety of fields, special attention is paid to maths and science teaching.
