Science, Engineering & Technology
There is a worldwide demand for engineers – but South Africa seems particularly hard hit by this short supply. Annually the United States produces 380 engineers per million people, China 225, India 95 and South Africa only 45.
This can be ascribed to the low number of pupils with maths and science marks high enough to study engineering. Continuing education in engineering is important to add skills to the already meagre crop of engineers.
CE at UP offers short course in a variety of engineering fields – including chemical, mining, civil and biosystems engineering, electrical, electronic and computer engineering, mechanical and aeronautical engineering, material science and metallurgical engineering and technology management.
